Emily Thomas Tubman (1794 – 1885) The sister of noted local historian and lawyer Landon Thomas, Emily was one of Frankfort’s most famous philanthropists. Following a devastating fire in 1870, she donated funds to restore the First Christian Church on Ann Street. Her generosity was also felt by Bethany College, and the Midway Orphan School (now Midway College). Tubman was the god-daughter of statesman Henry Clay, a family friend.
